How much of a lift do you really get with a lift kit?

How much of a lift do you really get with a lift kit?
I'm about to buy a lift but dint no how much of a lift I'd really be getting with a 2 or 3 inch lift kit.. I have seen trucks with a 6" lift and its over a foot..

um....ok. whatever the stated lift height is, is in fact how much it will lift it. Dont forget to add for tire height though. going from a 30" tall tire to a 35" tall tire will yeild 2.5" of lift also, so a vehicle with a 4.5" lift and a tire 5" taller than stock would sit 7" taller than stock.
