Default How long can I go with a Rod Knock in my oil pan?

I have a rod knock in my oil pan in my 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo. The engine is a straight-6 4.0 litre. I am going to have to get the motor replaced, but I was wondering how long I will be able to go on this motor before breaking down completely. This is my first post to the Cherokee forum and any advice would be much appreciated.

It will take you to the spot where the engine blows up. If you baby it, keep the revs low, and keep oil in the engine, you could go quite a while. I had a 71 Toyota Celica that had a rod knock, drove it for months like that. I just kept the revs out of the sweet spot where the knock was heard. If you hear the knock at any RPM, it may not last very long. If you only hear it at about 2000 RPM, you may have some time before it blows.

Contact this guy and buy his 4.0L from him then move your cylinder head to that block. You and he will both benefit...
