How heavy is a ZG/ZJ 4L motor?
I am planning to replace the engine in my ZJ and I am about to acquire a motor hoist. This hydraulic variety has different latch point for different weights.
Can anyone give me an indication of the weight of the 4 L engine with transfer case and ancillaries?
I may not have enough purchase with the highest weight point....
Thanks

Thread says a 4.0 with all the accessories attached is 600lb, which is 270kg near enough.

About right, but the original question included the t/case, so I assume you mean complete with transmission as well. This I would not attempt without an overhead 1 ton chainfall! This is not the best of ideas either. The center of balance would be at or about the bellhousing and there's nothing strong enough there to take the weight, PLUS it's too far back to grab it without sliding it forward first. Don't attempt it, take it apart in 3 pieces.
Be sure to leave the torque converter on the transmission. Pulling it off on the engine can damage the trans input shaft too easily.

Doesn't matter. The point is the same. The only way to pick up the entire unit is if it's exposed on a bare chassis, which jeeps are not! The only way to handle the complete unit would be with a 4-point lift, 2 on the engine and 2 on the transfer case.
I forgot to mention that the old assemble is broken at the flywheel housing (or whatever is called). So the removal "quality" is not that critical.
The rear mount of the engine got separated (broken) and the engine dropped...
I was driving on a smooth beach at the time.

I have ended up getting an engine AND a gearbox, as the bell shaped part of the gearbox, where it attaches to the motor, is cracked all around.
I will separate the old engine from the gearbox when removing.
Will buy tomorrow an engine crane/hoist.
Any other valuable advice for this heart transplant for my s(n)ow white of a Jeep?
Much appreciated!
