Default 1998 Grand Cherokee 4.0. Won't stay running

Traded my 4 wheeler for this trail rig project jeep. It will only run for a couple seconds then dies, it will fire right back up but die again after another couple seconds. Not sure what's going on any help is appreciated (runs 2-5 seconds before it dies) 98 4.0

It's probably in theft mode. Try unlocking the doors with the key.

It sounds to me like the security system is getting involved, like maybe it doesn't recognize the key. The keys have chips in them that the SKIM (Security Key Identification Module) has to read and authorize the use of. There should be a light on the dash that shows a key in a red circle with a slash thru it if it's not recognized. Being a trail rig, the PO may have tried to eliminate that function, but now it's back to haunt the jeep! JMHO.

Whatever the reason, the PCM is finding a fault with it's signals and is shutting down the ASD relay. This relay controls the ignition and injector circuits. This much I can tell you. The CPS is working, because if it wasn't, the engine wouldn't start in the first place.
