Default How do i....

How do i find out the number on my rear and spice or splice? Tryin to swap out my rear again cause the last one was miss tagged. It's for a 97 jeep grand Cherokee inline 6 with 3.55 gears. Every junk yard I call needs this info.

Still no answer on the question though... is there a tag or a stamp on the axle tube or something?

What question? There was a tag on my old rear that said 3.73's. It was tagged wrong. I never bothere to check the front tag and just through in another 3.73 rear. When my 4x4 wouldn't work then we knew something was up.

There is a stamp on the axle that will tell you if it's the D35 but not what gears unless you have the factory axle tag. You can also take the cover off and it's stamped into the gears themselves.

I think I answered the question. If you're buying an axle from the jy or someone else the only way to be sure of what gears are in it is to open it up.

Or spin the axle shaft one full turn and count how many times the yoke turns. Three and a half turns would be a 3.55, three and three quarters is a 3.73 and so on.
