I have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a bad voltage regulator. After doing some research and finding out that the voltage regulator is in the PCM/ECU/Computer whatever you want to call it I decided to make a trip to a local junk yard. After picking up a pcm for a whopping $20 I tried installing it. After installing it the jeep would die after 2 seconds. Doing some more research led me to figure out that the security feature links the chip in your key, the skim module, and the pcm all together to ensure that no one steals your vehicle. The reason this security feature is an issue is because now I cannot use a junk yard pcm for my jeep until I get the junk yard pcm programmed. So I called the Jeep dealership in my area and it turns out that they don't want to program a junk yard pcm and they want to charge me $800 for a new one. Clearly not in my budget if I went out and bought a $20 pcm. How can I program a PCM myself and if so what are the steps and tools I need to do it? I have done some research and have watched a few youtube videos and the best thing I got is a website called tech authority. I guess you download the pcm software and get it programmed to your vin for a solid $35 3 day use pass. I am not sure what I would need or even how I would get the software into the pcm. Do they have like adapters? Or is there a way to bypass the security feature so I can use the junk yard pcm? Anything you guys/gals have would be very helpful thank you.

Just an update I ordered A computer from https://www.fs1inc.com/ and they did an absolutely great job. The PCM came and I installed it right away. It fixed absolutely all of my issues, my voltage regulator (resulting in me charging my battery daily) and my transmission issues, my misfires and all sorts of problems. Now my jeep runs perfect no check engine lights, it runs smooth without misfires and the transmission & battery are running strong. Just wanted to throw this reply out there for people to see how much a computer can change a vehicle, it's like it came straight off the lot.
