I was thinking about picking up this 96 Grand cherokee with the 5.2L V8 it only has 196K on the clock and everything looks and sounds fine with it.
The tires on this thing are ridiculously small! And I will proli only offer like 1100$ for it.

So my question is:
How are these Grand Cherokees?
Are they reliable?
I've heard a lot about the V8s being bad in grands and causing a lot of problems.
What problems and/or problem areas should I look for when I go back to take a look at it?
Are there any certain years I should stay away from or get?

The Grands are nice. Hell I have one myself but with the 4.0L I use it for long trips cause it's more comfy to ride in and has a little more leg room.
I say go for it and get the correct tires on it.

X2. My '97 has the 5.2L V8 w/177,000 miles and the only thing I've had to replace on the engine was the water pump. Runs strong and doesn't use any oil. I did have to have the rear axle ring and pinion gears and bearings replaced.

I used to own a 96 v8 zj. That thing ran like a bear. Awesome vehicle until some ******* T-boned me. I would definitely buy another one if I had the money.

I say go for it, but change out those lame ghetto wheels and tires. And never refer to the interior color as "peanutbutter guts" like the rappers do.

go for it I have 201,000 on mine and love it. I have a 4.0 but the V8 is just as reliable plus they get about the same gas milage lol. just give it a good once over and drive it a few miles and make sure you let it warm up while driving it test the idle and all. since you need new tires look into a 2" BB and some 31's unless you plan to really lift it, if thats the case skip the 2" BB and just get your lift and bigger tires. I wouldnt go above 33's until you regear though.
