Default Hood will not open

I have searched everywhere and no luck. Have a 2002 Grand Cherokee WJ. Went to open the hood and the hood latch in the cab has slack in it, I pulled on the cable with pliers and its tight so its not broke. Is there any way to get the hood open. My brother in law and I messed with it for and hour and no luck. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

This happened at my shop the other day lol. Look into the grill and find the cable. Use a pair of needle nose and hold the clip thing on the cable and have some one pull the hood latch. When you get the hood opened place the cable back in the hole. Its kinda hard to explain lol

Happened on my 97 ZJ. Word of caution, Use a wire tie to keep it in place of it will happen again! The plastic clips that hold the cable in place are the problem.

This problem was discussed on a Dodge Ram forum. In this case the hood could not be opened but the poster was able to reach in with tools and undo the lock. After reading that thread I added a secondary hood release to my Ram.

I had a failed hood release on my Jeep. I was able to open it and replace the cable. I will look to see if I can easily add a secondary cable in this case too.
