That's it, I just need to find a wire in the engine compartment of my 94 ZJ 4.0. I've installed electric fans from a Ford Contour, and now I just need to find a 12v switched line for a TEMPORARY solution for turning on the fan when I turn the key on. I am adding a thermostatically controlled switch later, as well as a lead from the A/C to switch it on when the air is on. I'd rather not run a wire into the cabin to find a switched source, since this is only going to last me 2 weeks. So, any help would be appreciated.

 

You'll either need a wiring diagram (best) or a test light (meh).

 

Yea, I'm not gonna figure out a wiring diagram by this evening. Been looking for an easy access with my multi meter

 

I really hàte to run a wire into the cab temporarily..but that's how its starting to look

 

The easiest place to run a wire into the cab is thru the throttle cable grommet.

 

Thanks, man. I know I can find a wire to hook it to easy under the dash. Grommet sounds painless.

 

An easy way to push the wire thru is to tin (solder) the end to make it stiff, poke it thru the grommet, and pull what you need thru. The hole will be small and practically self sealing when you're done. You can tap into the power outlet on the dash for source, cigarette lighter for trigger for the relay. The cigarette lighter is only hot in accessory and ignition. The power outlet is fused 25 amp.

 

Good idea about the cigarette lighter. I don't necessarily need 25 amps, but its sure an easy wire to find!

 

Dave, appreciated your input. I got the wire hooked up 20 minutes after my last post and took it for a spin. Those electric fans move some air! My A/C was blowing much colder than before even!

Someone asked for pics. I wish I had more. The electric fan came from a 98-99 contour. Cut some wires, three 10mm bolts and I took the bolt that was holding the fan ground wire, and I'm glad I didn't cut that one. This is a pic of both fans and the shroud

 

I wired up a 40 amp relay ($4.99) straight to the battery, and ran the trigger wire to the cig lighter like Dave suggested

 

You can see I've got plenty of clearance. I never took the radiator out, like I've seen in other conversion threads. Just cut the tabs on the side, and trim a little for clearing the steering box. Marked and drilled holes to bolt some Home Depot brackets to the e-fan, and hang it from the old fan shroud bolts
