We've owned a 98 Grand Cherokee for a couple months now and when we put it in Drive, there is a very loud grinding noise. So loud it hurts your ears if you're standing outside the car. It does not do it in reverse. Any ideas???

 

Hi there. Maybe you could give some more info? Does the vehicle move in drive or reverse under its own power? If it goes forward, does it shift gears at all, does the sound change at all? Have you checked the transmission fluid? Check while in neutral when the vehicle is warm...is it full? What color is it, and does it smell burnt?
