Exclamation Help! I have a short... somewhere...

I'm desperate, I have a used 98 Grand Cherokee Limited with a short that doesn't show up on the computer diagnostic and my mechanic spent 3 days and 550.00 of my money trying to find. The battery drains in 1 to 2 days and it's driving me nuts. The sunroof doesn't work and it's the one place he hasn't pulled apart warning me it would be expensive. I don't care about the sunroof, does anyone know of a way to bypass the motor without dismantling the whole upper panel? Even if it's not the cause it's a problem since it will open but not shut and I really don't want a ducttape roof. Thanks for any help, this site has been a godsend.

get a test light.. unhook the neg battery terminal.. hook test light to neg on battery and the other end to the battery terminal.. if there is ANY draw at all the the test light will LIGHT UP .. the stronger the draw the BRIGHTER it will light up... then start pulling fuses one by one.. have someone watch test light .. pull a fuse.. if it goes dim.. or out all together.. then you found the circut the short is on... This is the ONLY way i can help you over the internet... if you can do that much.. then we can go from there... if none of the fuses make a diferance.. then its on a UN fused circut.. and that could be a few things.. like the alt.. or starter... or a wire.. that has fraded and shorting out on a ground someplace....

Thumbs up Thank you

Thanks hommer, getting a test light tomorrow to try it out. According to my mechanic, (who I don't even want to speak to anymore as I've had to bring her back twice to repair his repairs!) the alternator and battery are fine. Just had a new mechanic recommended, a car whisperer.
