What exactly did the mechanic do? Might want to check areas he worked on make sure everything was done right.

Where is valve cover? How do you checkbif it leaks? I checked the area where he worked it all looks good, just left for my lunch break drove about 15miles back to work no smoke but rubber spark plug caps are scorching hot, hotter then the radiator cap? I just tried starting it again and it stalled out tyres again idle rough for a sec then good to go. I'm lost here

Hi the valve cover is on the top of the engine, with the oil cap on it. there is a sealing under it and if the oil is leaking it can get in the hole of the spark, and can smoke when the engine is hot. On the other hand, stalling and rough idle can indicate ignition problem, so I would check the spark plugs, the distributor cup and the rotor, just to be sure everything is tight.

Retorque the spark plugs. And you never said what engine you have.
