Got the engine finished and Humpty is all put back together again... but will not start. I have read a few forums suggesting that it is probably the cam shaft sensor and I have followed all the suggestions of TDC sticking a toothpick in it and reinstalling but it just won't start. It does turn over and kicks in for just a second but really really rough and won't stay running. Several of the post say that aligning the sensor by hand gets it going ok and some have had to take it to the dealer to get reset. But just wondering if there are any other suggestions I can try since I can't even get it to stay running enough to limp to the dealer. Here is a link of trying to start it just in case the attachment doesn't work.

 

First of all, pumping the pedal does nothing but confuse the PCM. No fuel goes thru the throttle body. Have you tried starting without using the pedal?

Are all the vacuum lines hooked up? I seem to see an open line coming from behind the throttle body. It's apparently a WJ because of the placement of the evap canister but IDK without going out and looking at mine to see what that is.

 

I just noticed that it seems to do better if I press pedal and open up the intake. That is why the air cover is off. I will double check again but the only line I think that is not connected is the one there in the front that goes to the Air box.

 

Yeah, that's just the fresh air supply for the crankcase. There looks like about a 1/4" steel tube sticking out from behind the throttle body that I don't recognize. Maybe it's an extension screw for the intake clamp? Mine just has the normal clamp that's a PITA to get to.

 

Round up the usual suspects, air fuel spark. Checking fuel pressure is easy enough.
That being said I read a similar story where the guy had the wrong intake gasket, or wrong intake manifold I think it was, and no start.
