X2 Check all rubber hoses on throttle body, intake manifold, for cracks and replace.
On our '04 WJ w/the 4.7L V8, when going uphill the ac would start blowing onto the windshield instead of from the dash vents. I found a hose on the upper rear of the throttle body had cracked allowing a vacuum leak. This caused the ac to go into default when under load. If I lifted the throttle, or crested the hill, it returned to normal operation. I wrapped some tape around the hose until I could get a new one from the dealer, and it solved the issue.
