Default Grinding noise

I have a 94 grand cherokee laredo 5.2 v8 full time 4wd,when im driving there is a grinding noise in front end onwhat sounds like drivers side but its hard to pinpoint. It only does it when i am on the gas and when i let off it stops and when i put it in neutral no noise,i thought maybe a wheel bearing so i jacked it up and no play in either wheel, could it be a pinion bearing or cv axle maybe grinding, any help is appreciated. Thanks

Does the noise sound mechanical, or could it be something rattling? Sometimes when I am in drive while stopped, the engine vibrates at just the right frequency to rattle a body panel (gonna fix that one of these days...) Switching to neutral changes the resonance enough to stop it.

If it is mechanical, and it stops when in neutral... Sounds like something to do with the transmission or transfer case.

Still, I'd experiment some more with different combinations of speed, gear, 4wd, and throttle to see what triggers it.
