Default grand cherokee stalls when put into gear

I have a 2001 grand cherokee, that is stalling when put into gear forward or back. the trans seems to engage hard and then kills the engine. what should I check ??

The torque converter clutch may be locked all of the time. You should have a shop check it out and diagnose it correctly.

Default Thanks for the advice

I was afraid of it being the torque converter or trans and that means an expensive fix

Not necessarily, it could be a solenoid that is causing the problem.

Have it diagnosed before throwing parts at it.

Okay, don't listen! Go ahead and spend the money for a new transmission. You asked, we told you. CHECK THE SOLENOID!!!
