Default grand cherokee 4 wheel drive issue

hi.

I have a 2005 grand Cherokee.
when I try to engage the 4 wheel drive mode by putting the automatic transmission into neutral then pulling the lever to automatically engage the 4 wheel drive mode, a message come up "4 wheel drive needs servicing". I have used this 4 wheel drive mode a few times over the last six months with no problems. the car has only 20,000 on the clock so is no where near worn. it has been serviced approx. 3000 miles ago
other than getting the main dealer to check this out, has anyone any ideas?

See what the code is. Doesn't mean it needs a service. It means there is something wrong. There will be a dtc.

IDK what t/case you have, but if it's the 242, all you have to do is get off the throttle and you can shift on the fly at any speed, however I haven't tried it above 50 mph. The only time you have to shift to neutral is to go into low range and then only at a crawl.
