I have a new to my son a 1994 zj with the VIC that doesnt even light up. After reading some about it here I am thinking about removing it, has anyone tried to put a double din radio in that spot?

 

I removed mine this weekend and replaced it with a cubby I found in the Junk Yard. I have a newer jeep than yours so mine might be a bit different, but I don't think there is enough room for a radio in that spot (shallow). If you really want to install a double din I thought I saw someone who did that by removing the vents up by the radio to make the room needed. At one time I thought about installing one of those radios that the screen comes out on but the shelf of the dash would interfere with it so I abandoned the idea.


if you really want the VIC you could get a replacement at a junk yard, or you could try repairing the one you have. from what I understand the solder joints go bad (just like in the lighting controls) and by re-heating them it repairs the connection.

thanks for the feedback, now that i looked at it a little more, a double din measures 7in by 4in, and that will not fit. my son doesnt really want me modding up HIS jeep. LOL I bought it, I will mod it if I want punk.
