Tune up, 35psi in the load range C tires, remove the roof rack cross bars, keep the junk out of the trunk, and drive with an easy foot when not using the cruise control. I was getting 18mpg on average in my 95 ZJ with a 4.0, but then I replaced the fan clutch because I was a little warm in traffic, now I average 16mpg.

This has been discussed a lot before and there there isn't anything that will effect it like how you drive it. Plain and simple, you got a jeep... I really hope it wasn't for the fuel economy... Lol
There's a reason I have a decal that says f*** fuel economy Haha

Bought my 4.0 WJ just under a month ago - average so far is about 14mpg - pretty much what I expected. I only do 60 - 70 miles per week so not too much of an issue for me. Recently sold my 4.0 XJ which I got around 15-16 but the WJ is bigger and heavier. Bought the car for comfort & 4WD ability to get me 2 miles to work each day regardless of weather conditions.
