Default Failure to shift

Our 2024 Grand Cherokee Laredo has an intermittent but scary problem. Since buying the car in May the auto trans sometimes fails to shift when the accelerator is pressed. The engine revs into the red but nothing happens on the transmission side.
The only way i know to correct the problem is to pull over , stop the engine and restart. The car functions normally after I do this. I can also shift the car to neutral and back to drive to clear the problem, Not the best solution when merging on a busy highway
Have taken her to the dealer three times and they can't identify the problem. They replaced both the primary and secondary batteries, which were BOTH bad. Odd on new production vehicle. The shift problem still rears it's ugly head.
Anyone ever heard of this problem ? i can't find anything online that fits our experience with the car. Any ideas ? My wife, who is disabled, is getting afraid to drive the vehicle. I don't blame her, Big problem if this happens on the interstate.

Default Same problem

I am experiencing the same problem. I have a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited L. It has less than 400 miles on it and it’s had the same problem twice. Been to the dealer and they can’t find the problem. It is scary.

Can I quote you ? I have an NCDS arbitration teleconference with Jeep Chrysler in December on this issue. My goal is to get the problem fixed or replace the vehicle. I can give you more information on the process if you like.

Angry This happened to me today, 1st time

I have a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4 X 4 purchased in April this year. I have 2,960 miles on it.
I was out doing some shopping today and came out of the store and drove through the parking lot and all was fine. When I pulled out onto the road and was accelerating, all of a sudden I heard the engine revving, it was almost a wining noise, and the car was not moving much, almost like it was in neutral. Luckily no one was behind me, and I was able to pull to the side of the road. I put it in park for a few minutes while I tried to calm my racing heart. After I put it back in drive and moved on, it was totallly fine and did not do it again for the ride home. Now I’m uneasy about driving it. Of course, I’m going to take it to the dealer, but from what I’m reading, I’m not confident they will find what’s wrong. This is my 3rd Jeep Grande Cherokee and I am sorry I bought it!

Can I quote you as well ? The dealer can’t diagnose the issue. The more examples I can provide the better chance that the company will take this seriously.

Of course! I have a call in to the dealer to discuss and will see what they say. But in researching this issue, I also saw a few posts on Jeep Garage forum with folks who had same thing going on. The thread is “ 2024 Failing Transmission: Grand Cherokee Limited”
Update on my conversation with the dealer today….service technician asked “ are you sure you didn’t accidentally press a paddle shifter?” My answer is no I didn’t press the paddle shifter, 100% sure! And of course, they haven’t heard of this issue before. 😡

The same thing happened to wife for the first time this morning while getting on the highway. She said it revved up into the red while getting on the highway. She pulled over and then remerged, but no change. I told her to pull over and put it into park, then go back into drive and try it again. This time it worked just fine. I hope I'm not to late to add this experience to your complaint. Our jeep is a 2024 Grand Cherokee Laredo leased on March 30, 2024.

I have a call into the dealership and am currently waiting for a call back. I would also suggest to all vehicle owners having this issue that they report it to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, by doing this they will investigate and may issue a recall to have the issue resolved.

Happened to me yesterday. Fortunately, I was in a safe location, no traffic. I stopped the motor and restarted and it worked fine. Now I’m a bit concerned about this happening on the road. It’s a 2025 and not quite 2K miles. It’s time to visit the dealership

Default Transmission lock up

My wife experience the same issues. Suddenly stopped in traffic with motor reving but not moving. Had to stop vehicle and restart and then worked fine. Scary situation! Being rear ended highly likely! 2024 with 11,000 miles

Default Transmission slipping

I purchased my jeep in November. It happened to me once about a week in. Stepped on gas while at a red light. Vehicle revved high but would not engage. . I pulled over, restarted and all was fine. I considered it a one off. However, it happened again yesterday and I will be contacting dealer on Monday.

Our dealer had it in--after a long investigation with Jeep engineers--they admitted to knowing about a problem with software. We got an very updated software version ahead of what is available to fix the problem. No issues since update 6 weeks ago. Hope this resolves the issue!!!

I purchased my 2024 Grand Cherokee Laredo in July 2025, and have had this happen just twice. The first time was leaving the dealership! It revved when I was accelerating onto the freeway, but putting it to neutral and back to drive fixed the problem. Didn't happen again for about 4 months. Same thing fixed that time too, I haven't taken in since it has been so rare that I figured they wouldn't be able to reproduce it. Guess I should at least bring it to their attention.
