Engine shake 4.0?
Hello I'm new here just bought my first Jeep. I have been a Ford guy all my life but got a steal of a deal and I don't know if I can go back I love my Jeep it's a 2001 jeep grand cherokee Laredo 4.0.
Anyway anyone have their engine shake a bit? With a ticking sound? I checked the belt no cracks it looks new.. Everything seems mechanically sound. No check engine light and I plugged odb2 scanner in just to make sure bulb wasn't out and no codes so not a misfire I think. it just honestly bothers me.. Any ideas? Thanks.

Welcome to CF! I drive one of those myself!
Ticking sound is a normal Jeep 4.0 trait and nothing to worry about. The shake may be bad motor mounts (not unusual) or a cylinder imbalance due to a worn spark plug or one that's shorting out. There are insulators on the spark coil pack that sometimes dry out and crack. They are a snap to change and a complete set of 6 with springs are $15.43 from rockauto.com (Standard Motor Products)
Anything worse should set a CEL.

Oh....wait! Life with a jeep has just started! LOL! No, seriously, the 4.0 is in my opinion, the most reliable engine there is! This comes from an old Chevy small block fanatic! It is, however, a long stroke torque engine that makes most or it's power below 4000 rpm. They are geared to run at around 2000 on the highway at speed. They tend to lack power for towing heavy loads unless you drop down a gear. 3rd gear is direct 1:1. Normal axle gearing is 3.55 except 3.73 with the tow package. Check out wjjeeps.com for more info.
Keep in mind you're driving 4000 lbs with 195 hp.

Cool thanks for the info lol. Yes I have owned multiple f150 v8 triton 5.4's and I just love the look and the feel of the Jeep it's a whole new experience. I can get groceries and look cool at the same time!
