Engine management light

Engine management light
I have a 2003 wj grand Cherokee. It's the 2.7 CRD model. Sometimes when I first start it up and put it in gear, it seems to b slow in moving even if I have my foot flat down then the engine management light comes on. It the doesnt change gear.
If I then turn it off and back on it drives normal but the light stays on.
Has anybody got an idea Wat this problem could be? A sensor or gear box problem??
