Ok, Today ( against my better judgment ) i bought a 95 zj with i think a 318 v8. the first thing i wanted to do was change the oil... simple huh? Well i have changed alot of oil in my days and that filter is in the worst possible area i have ever seen. I ended up removing that brace from the block to the bell housing to change it.
What did i miss,,, there must be an easier way. Oh this rig is for mama, i have an xj that takes ten min tops to change the oil on it.
WHAT IS THE SECRET?

Ok, Today ( against my better judgment ) i bought a 93 zj with i think a 318 v8. the first thing i wanted to do was change the oil... simple huh? I had a 95 v8 ZJ I remember just reaching up there easily with a filter wrench to loosen then turning by hand and slipping it off without even making a mess ... I'm certain the Oil filter are in same location on pass side rear of block sticking straight out ,but maybe the 93 had some BS in the way the 95 did not...I could do my oil in street clothes on that thing with only getting my hands smudged a little ...now the WJ is a different story , As I'd like to know who has forearms feminine enough to fit up there without issues reaching the filter .

Yep, you're doing something wrong. All the V8 ZJ's have the same oil filter placement. I go in straight under the hood, and reach up and twist it off. Even if you had the optional engine skid, you shouldn't need to take that off.

Now i had it up on ramps when i did it, and the lower control arm may have been compressed to much not allowing me to drop it straight down. next change i will try doing it on the ground. thanks for the feedback.

Sorry I misunderstood. I did my ZJ on the ground, and I thought the oil filter placement left a lot to be desired. It's not a straight down drop.....
