ELV Failure - Help Please!!
I've enjoyed reading these forums, and they helped me diagnose a turbo problem when I got the dreaded ETC Harry Potter lightning bolt of death warning light with my 2006 Grand Cherokee WK CRD (turbo actuator refurbed and engine now running well).
I'm hoping a savior will help me with my current problem. I have an ELV failure, and have not received the most help from the dealership:
In relation to the investigation of your Grand Cherokee that was recovered in with the issue regarding non starting and steering lock not disengaging. He has carried out further investigation and checked the 2 fused feeds to the ELV and ground, wiring was found ok at time of test, internal lock fault is stored in WCM. There is a fault inside steering lock which will not release, this is the cause of non-start due to lock not releasing. The vehicle will require a new steering lock as well as skreem (part suspended with no date available) due to having to be replaced as a matched pair. As the steering lock will have to be broken off the steering column, it will cause damage to the steering column which would then also require replacement but the part is no longer available. The steering lock is attached to the steering column by what is called a ‘detense’ system, which is a pin system that works internally and there is no access to whilst the lock is engaged, which is why it would require breaking off from the column. Unfortunately with some of the parts not being available at this time, we are unable to carry out the repair required.
If there is anyone UK based, who could recommend a Jeep specialist, or anyone know of any non-genuine/OEM parts that can get around this problem, it would be much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance
