i have recently found a problem with my jeep. its a 2004 WJ with a 42re trans and a np242 transfer case. i have noticed when i put it into 4wd and go in reverse, my fuse for my Fuel Injectors blows. it happens every time but only happens in 4wd. could it be my nss or i know i need a new governor solenoid and a pressure transducer in the trans. could either of those be causing my problem? its keeping me off the trails and driving me nuts cause i cant figure it out. please help. thanks.

Does it instantly pop the fuse or does the vehicle need to move first? I would say no on the NSS, or Gov circuits. Those trans circuits are not tied to the t-case and basically they dont know or care what state the t-case is in. Sounds like a wiring short to me

I dont really see the relationship between the two but you need to try to inspect all wiring if possible. Look around the trans and t-case possibly looking for pinched or burned wiring. The trans and t-case wiring goes up the bell housing and into the eng compartment. I forgot where it comes up into the eng compartment but I think its over near the back of the intake manifold around the #6 injector. Look around there for rubbing or grounding out. ya i have been looking for shorts with no luck,and it has to be given gas in order for it to pop the fuse

 

Could be a bad pcm. Not.100% but just trying to think of what is on the efi fuse circut

 

Thats what I was thinking too. Those two systems dont share fuses but they share inputs/outputs through the PCM. There is no telling what might be going on inside the PCM.

 

could it be the transfer caser position switch??

 

hey guys, i unplugged the tcps(transfer case position switch) and it went right into reverse in 4wd, so that means its either just the switch or the wiring from the switch has a short

 

I doubt its the switch since your problem only occurs when shifted to reverse. The sensor only transmits resistance values based on the position of the transfer case shifter. It seems like maybe the harness down there is getting torqued from shifting and accelerating, or the harness is shorted to maybe the NSS reverse lamp circuit.

Since you have a result with unplugging the t-case pos switch, you might see if the same result happens by unplugging the NSS this would isolate the reverse circuit from the problem too.

 

the nss is in the left(passenger) side of the trans?

 

Yes & No, the left side is correct but its on the drivers side, just above the pan and behind the shifter linkage.

BTW the left/right sides are given as you would be sitting in the drivers seat.
