Exclamation Electrical Gremlin

Fellow jeep folks.... My Delima.. 94 Grand Cherokee, 190 K miles,4.0 six, auto trans, air. This is gonna get a lot of you thinking!! The issue is this...vehicle runs great most of the time, just once in a while it won't start.the reason is why I'm here. I get in sitting in drivers seat, turn key, it turns over, but won't start. I get out, reach thru the steering wheel, turn key, it starts!
That is correct, when sitting in drivers seat, it will not start. I have taken the seat out, remover the carpet, looked at all the wiring looms on that side, no chaffing, no bare spots, no visible signs at all..
After a few minutes of getting in and out and trying it start it, it usually starts.also, it has electric seats, but I've unplugged the connector at the seat, no difference. Suggestions???

Sounds like you might have to convert to a right hand drive setup to solve that problem hahaha...but honestly I don't know what it could be if all wiring around the seat is good. Maybe something down by your feet or maybe its all coincidence...weird. Good luck to ya hopefully someone has experience with this issue!

Sounds like a bad ignition key cylinder. Or the key itself might be warn out. Do you have a spare? I have worn out the key itself on my pickup truck but fortunantly I had a spare.

Another stupid question. Does the door being open or closed make any difference?

Oh, welcome to CF!

Door oper or closed... No difference. Seatbelt on or off, no difference. It only happens when i sit in the drivers seat, and not always... I took both seats out, and the full carpet as well as the back seat bottoms. I need to chase this down. Anyone have a wiring schematic for a 94 or a link?

Don't move the wheel at all. What happens is, I get in, I turn the key to start, it cranks over but does not start. I turn key off, I exit vehicle. Then I reach thru the open window, grab the key in the ignition and turn it to start. It starts. I open the door and sit in drivers seat, it dies.... I again exit vehicle, repeat the sequence, it starts. I enter vehicle, sometimes it stays running, sometimes it doesn't. I do not move the seat, I do not move the tilt. I do not touch anything but the key and the steering wheel. I just rest my left hand on the steering wheel, sometimes I don't even touch it with my left hand. It is a very strange problem.... Intermittent , not every time,no rhyme nor reason.....

Just a quote, but it's usually the cause of a no start. Now as for the problem you're having with you Jeep. I have no f@&King clue as to what would cause that craziness.
