Default Ebay Key fob.....

I was about to purchase these fobs, http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-OEM-Remote.../140676813519?

Can anyone help me on how to program these to my 98 ZJ?

I have done a search and the only results i have found were the link to PacificCoastManuals.com

BTW.... amazing manuals! just buy one already.

anyways, mine is downloading. Is this going to be something i can even do myself, with the full VIC? Or do I have to take them to a Steal-ership and tell them they just quit working after the last time i unhooked the battery?

Bad news the dealership or a good locksmith will have to program it for you.

yep.... i just called the stealership, and they want $154.50 to program the remotes.

If i could find a Junkyard donor and pull the RKE reciever with the matching fobs, could i just swap it out? What parts do I need to pull?

I bought a new fob from the dealership program it for me and the cost was just over a $120 for it all for my 99 XJ.

On the WJ,
the RKE receiver is mounted to the inside of the passenger's door panel with screws. That and the matching remotes is all you need. IDK about the ZJ.

I bought a FOB from EBAY for my WJ. A dealer here wanted $50.00 to program it. Said it would take a half hour. Not sure why it's so high for your Jeep. However, after they programmed it, which took several minutes, not 30. They told me no charge. They offered no explanation, I asked no questions. Maybe shop around.

The RKE receiver will accept up to 6 different codes. If your fob was one of them and they got it first shot, they may not charge you. If they have to mess around changing the RKE receiver codes, it's going to cost you. Each fob has it's own built in code. It's the receiver that decides whether to accept it or not.
