Default door seal question

Hello Everyone,

I have a 1996 jeep grand Cherokee limited. I have a lot of things to do to the vehicle to get it where i'd like but as far as driving i'd get in it and drive across country if needed without any real worries. I mean something can happen to any vehicle at any time.

Instead of listing everything I want or need to get done, i think that will cause confusion so i am going to start with one thing at a time.

Right now the passenger window will not roll up (probably a wire short somewhere) but even though its got a tarp over it when parked its the drivers side that seems to have the water problem. the weather strip seal I believe is bad, i have seen water run down it but never inside the vehicle yet its getting in the vehicle drivers side somehow. its got chunks and such missing from it but has since i bought it.

so thinking its now at the time it needs replacing.

but I can not find anything labeled as a direct replacement would something like this work?

thanks

Now we are talking about the door seal, the big one, and not a window seal?
If so thinking this is what you are looking for.

not sure I know the difference between them. I think I need to replace the part thats on the frame itself the door closes into and whats the on the inside of the door as well. the two parts would come together to form the seal.

The common problem is broken wire(s) in the door jamb boot.

Mine was repaired by moving the boot, soldering in jumper wires and covering w heat shrink.

That was as fun as it sounds.

This topic shows my door jamb wiring repair.

hello wingless

i've looked at your topic a few different times, this window thing is not new but I can't handle the heat outside especially during the summers and when i do or can do work I can only do so much before my back tells me its done, especially if i am in an odd position which is why the auto delay relay (which is bad) is still in the vehicle i can't get into the right position to find where its at under the dash, the dash is more or less apart already. also know there is a short in the over head console since just by moving it i can stop all windows that work (just drivers side) from working and the whole dash dies, the vehicle still runs just fine, then move it around and everything starts to work. when i get to the wiring thats where I am going to start but there probably is a wire in the passenger door jam thats broke, everything looked ok on the drivers side unless its broke inside and the outer casing is still in tact.

I just figured if i started with one thing at a time I might get better or less confusing help since its basically one topic at a time.

soon i'll take it to the mechanic see how they managed to roll the windows up and down and get the passenger window rolled up (assuming short not found first) and the ac fixed, just not sure if i'll have them do the whole ac system or just try to repair the ac bearings thats bad) it worked just fine last time i turned it on other than the bearings got to the point it would drag down the engine when turned on and cause all sorts of oddball things.

but after some of the last rain and the drivers side area looking like a flood zone thought i better start on that first.

yes thats the one or at least one of them, seems to me and sadly i've not really looked at the jeep lately to confirm but it seems there is one basically on the body on the vehicle and the door itself. but even with that part number I can not seem to pull up anything with it, seems like any time of good weather stripping might work but on the door like #5 it seems like it might slide over a metal lip, i will have to check.

just don't know what kind of door weather stripping to buy, seems like i could get just about any but i am not sure hence the question.
