Someone wants to sell me a 85 toyota rear axle. I think its 4.30 ratio. He said it would be great for my ZJ. I have a 94, V8 5.2. I will be getting a 3.5" lift and 31" tires. He also mentioned something about maybe needing wheel spacers? Thanks everyone.

 

toyota makes a nice strong rear axle, especially when built up a bit.
they're kinda like a ford 9, where it has a 3rd member instead of a diff cover.

but, they are a bit narrower, different gears, and have a different bolt pattern. therefore, not very common as a rear option in a jeep. unless you get the matching front solid axle and have everything welded up to fit.

i would stay away for that reason only.

if your willing to do the work to make it usable it would be a great axle.
my friend runs 40s on a stock rear yota axle in his truck and has birfield shafts in the front and never has broken them yet.

you could find a wagoneer dana 44 for the front if you cant find a yota front axle.

the removable 3rd member is really nice though, my dad just re geared his toyota to 529s yesterday and it is so much easier to set up the gears than in my jeep
