Default zj with heat issues

Hey fellas I got a 96 ZJ w/ the 5.2 in her, I just replaced the water pump, a new tsat, and new coolant temp sensor as well. Now the damn thing is runnin hot round 210-215??? The reason why I'm dumb founded is that I replaced the tsat with a 180 degee one. The heat is so so far from blistering but just slightly warm at best. when I idle for any length of time in traffic it rises real quick! then levels off and then the cool temp sen starts flashin. when I start to drive after this happens the temp sensor stop flashin and the engine temp starts to go back down under 200 degees. I really need some help with this one I've searched the forum and couldn"t quite find the exact answer, any an all replies are welcomed Thx

Air bubble in the system? When its warm (before it gets too hot to touch) can you squeeze and compress the upper radiator hose?

+1 for air bubble. I have seen people install t-stat's backwards but AFAIK, you can't on the ZJ's.

Check the condition of your clutch fan. With the engine off it shouldn't spin freely. There should be drag on it. If it does replace it.
Check the radiator and a/c condenser for debris blocking airflow.
And Welcome to CF.

Put the correct rated t-stat back in it, it should be a 195.

Whats the actual failure quantity at 1% of a gabazillion tstats manufactured?
Its possible the new one is bad. Have the old one handy, stick it back in.

After 20 plus years in the business, here's a trick I have used forever in burping the systems.
Drill a small to tiny hole in the "face" of the tstat. Remember the H2O is under pressure at the tstat housing (from the H2O pump) so the hole can be pretty small, and still work just fine. A small block Chevy water pump will move about 50 to 60 gallons a minute! I have got to believe the Dodges are similar to that number.
