Distributer Pickup
Does anyone have any info about a distributor pickup?
Im looking to learn its roll it plays in the vehicle and Im interested in what symptoms it would show if it needed replaced, and any tips on how to replace would be great. I tried removing it and couldn't seem to get it lose. I felt like it was going to break if I pulled any more
thanks

It just sits on the distributor housing and is held in place by the cap. It acts as a cam sensor and gives the ECM a reference to what cylinder is firing. When the sensor starts to fail it will cause the engine to stall, usually after the engine gets to operating temperature. They can also cause rough running or a no start condition.

****ing sweet man, however mine is not held on by the cap. once the cap is removed is does not want to come off. there appears to be a little lip on the distributor that part of this coil pick up. I cant separate them with out breaking this coil... is this something im going to have to remove the distributor to do? the shaft that the button sits on is in the way of removing this pick up. tips?

I put in new pick up coil yesterday morning and didn't fix anything... I then put in a second CPS and while test driving I got back fire so bad my brand new muffler and cat I installed two weeks exploded while driving.... Need another whole new exhaust system. IM ready to get a new vehicle. Just realized what Jeep stands for... just empty every pocket... A brand new and most expensive CPS I could but just to avoid a piece of crap

Distributor was not removed at least since I have had it for almost a year now....
This problem started last april and has been gradually getting worse... getting worse meaning that it happens sooner and sooner and last longer and longer and longer
I am able to make it to work and home that's it.... about a 20min ride before it starts stalling, backfiring and not starting. It has to sit an entire 8-10 hrs before it will run long enough to get me to or from work... If I go and get lunch in the jeep, it will take me about an hr to get home because the jeep will be stalling as I leave the parking lot of my work.
If it were a timing issue, wouldn't this be happening from the moment the jeep was turned on?
I bought a multi meter. after reading about engine coils I have a funny feeling my PCM might be the problem.... My ignition coil is brand new yet the car acts if its not firing.... Im suspecting the signal to the coil is being interrupted along the way or is being interrupted because the computer is malfunctioning
Strong exhaust coming from tail pipe when it stalls and is trying to be turned over.
Yesterday morning my girlfriend followed me home from Helen ga (as I broke down the night before because the jeep would not stay on) and told me everytime she started smelling exhaust a couple seconds later I would be pulling over. So exhaust was getting really heavy and then stall out....
All I can think of is that there is too too much fuel by the spark plug. There is either too much fuel being dumped in or the spark plugs aren't getting spark, which takes me to my distributor cap which is entirely brand new.... Cap, rotor button, distributor coil, plugs, wires and ignition coil.... it cant be all the new stuff so whats next before all this... its the computer.... multimeter test that **** this week I guess... what do you think?

Was it ever checked for codes. Sometimes eliminating whats not wrong will point in direction of whats actualy wrong.
