I'm pretty sure the V8 WJs came with a D44A, not iron. They are unique in that they have a boss on top to mount a single ball joint upper control arm mount. WJs with that 3-point linkage don't flex very well when set up with a long arm lift.

If your looking to build your axes for heavy duty off-roading I would recommend just going straight to the 8.8. the swap is not that hard, just a tad tedious.
