Default Dash light and taillight

Can anyone help me out with this?
The lights on my dash and taillights are out and it's not the bulbs.had a few electric problems before but unplugging the battery has always done the trick.
But not this time.
I have a 1997 jeep grand cherokee laredo. Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

I had to replace the entire tail light assembly on my '02 WJ because everything suddenly stopped working... I didn't even know until I got pulled over for having a stop light out (aka brake light)... ended up pulling an aftermarket tail light assembly off of another WJ at my local Pick-'N'-Pull... that did the trick. Maybe getting a new tail lamp would somewhat help.

On my old '94 ZJ, I had a problem where one of the stop lights wouldn't come on, and I could occasionally get it to come on if I either hit it with my hand, or if I messed with the socket... never investigated it fully but I was having similar problems.

In regards to your dash lights, if you mean the green back-lighting that lights up the gauges and center stack when the headlights are turned on, my '02 WJ's lights are half out on the gauges, and the HVAC controls, cigarette lighters/power outlets, etc. don't light up anymore, so you'd probably need to replace the dash lights (they're LED's) if you're handy with electronics. I think my old '94 ZJ had dash light problems as well. But I never knew the problem with your tail lights and dash lights could be "related".

Hope I was able to provide some insight here. Good luck, and please update us if you find a fix!

Because it's both the dash and tail lights, I would suspect the multi-function switch on the steering column.

Right... that can go bad as well... easy and cheap part to get from the Pick-'n'-Pull or else order online, but it'll be more expensive the latter way.
