Default Dash light on

On my 2002 4.0 liter. The key with a slash through it is on. Any one know what can cause this? I thought this was a theft deterent . Still starts and runs so I don't know what is going on.

Is it on all the time or does it extinguish after a period? Did you get a new key fob? What about checking/replacing the key fob battery? It might not be communicating well with the Body Control Module (BCM)...

No, that involves the SKIM (security key identification module). It shouldn't run if the light is on. It's telling you it doesn't recognize the key as being valid. The fob communicates with the RKE (remote keyless entry) receiver.

The key has an RF chip in it that has a code built into it. When the key is inserted into the ignition lock, the SKIM interrogates the key and reads it's code. If the code isn't one that's stored in the SKIM, it's not supposed to run for more than 2 seconds. The SKIM will recognize up to 6 keys. IDK why it's not working right.

Yup, you might want to check either the SKIM or the keys you have, and either have new keys cut (you can program them yourself as long as you have TWO original keys by following a key sequence that escapes me right now) or get a new SKIM. If it goes away, then great, you might not need to worry about it.

On the comedy side, as long as it's running alright, remove the bulb! LOL! I've put a piece of tape over my ABS light because I've spent enough money trying to fix it already.
