Dana 44 swap to a Dana 35
I have a Dana 44 aluminum. I want to put a locker in but not a mechanical locker. So I was thinking of picking up a Dana 35. My question is will that be a direct swap? Or will this require fabrication on the 35 to make it fit?
Thanks for your help.

If the D35 is from a grand the same body type it should be a direct swap, however a D35 is not a good idea for a swap, let alone with a locker.

Some of the guys I go off roading with are telling me to change my carrier and try the mechanical locker. Would I need a carrier out of a dana 44 a or would a carrier out of any 44 work?

From what I have read the D44a is still a decent axle and still better than a dana 35.
You still have 30 spline shafts and what not. I don't think there is much locker support for it but it will still run 33's no problems. If you go bigger I would truss it.

Why downgrade and spend more money replacing parts. The D44a is a good rear axle; just sucks there isn't that much aftermarket support.

I agree, do any of you have any experience with mechanical lockers. Should I consider Aussie, Lock Right or Spartan. I have found somebody who will give me a open carrier.

When you changed the spider gears fid they look bad? I would have thought bearings first.
