Ok as the title says, i am wondering what i should keep an eye on the water will hurt on my Jeep. I have recently been driving it in a small creek near me only a foot or so of water, only once has it ever came over the top of my tires and im running 4.5'' of lift and 32'' tires. Anyways i haven't seen any really damage or had any problems from it yet, but would like to know what i should maybe do to my jeep if im going to do it more often and what to keep an eye on. Its a 4.0 auto 98 ZJ.
Do a search on raising your breathers on a ZJ. you should have one for each diff, trans and tcase. dont go barreling into the water as that will create a huge splash and you could possibly ingest some into the motor, ease into it. get a snorkel. if you stop moving and get stuck dont make it worse by trying to get out. you should also inspect or change any fluids after a day of wheeling with water crossings. you might go through axle seals, bearings and the other wear items sooner then usual also.

Thanks for the tips, i dont plan on taking it in deep water much at all just about a foot or less once and a while. I thought a bout putting a snorkel on it but i hear it drops MPG alot, and at the moment this in also my DD so..
i dont have a snorkel but my buddy put one on his 4runner and he gained about 1.5 mpgs. think of it as a forced air intake and you could see how its possible. i know most of his driving is highway though and dunno how it would effect city driving. ill be adding one to mine.

Yea i thought that to but then seen where some people said it dropped MPG, and i could see that if they dont have a lot of higher speed driving forcing the air in it.
I'm pretty sure the ZJ is much like the WJ in that you need to drop the transmission to extend any breather for it. If you get STUCK in water up over those 32's you can count on your tranny most likely sucking water up. The 42RE in the 4.0 WJ has just a hole drilled into the top of it that needs to be sealed off and re-tapped for a breather. This should be your number one concern...and then your transfer case of course. Differential breathers are located fairly high on these Grands.
