I've recently acquired a 94 Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4.0 automatic, full time 4wd with only 162k miles, and its very clean. Its got a few minor issues, one being the cruise control. Not sure if there is an "On" light for it anywhere or not. It will turn on and it will hold speed as long as I keep the "Set/decel" button pressed. When I let it go of the button, it shuts off.
The second one, the security system. Clicking and flashing the lights. I tried the key trick to stop it, it worked. I was wondering if this is the cause of everything. And the last, the door locks won't lock. There is a single chime when "Lock" is pushed. But they will unlock.

So I found some post about a vacuum reservoir that may be the cruise issue. I'll look into that tomorrow.

 

Reservoir was leaking. I sealed it back up, but it didnt fix the cruise.

 

Hey jham0077, Welcome to the CF! Congrats on getting yourself a new old Jeep. I suffered an intermittent cruise control when I first got my 2000 WJ, so I know how you feel. My failure was different, in that I had to turn on my left turn signal blinker to get my cruise to remain set, and then I could shut off my blinker. It was annoying but convenient because I was usually proceeding into the left lane on the highway during that time. In any case, that's when I got my hands on the m/y 2000 WJ service manual (it should apply to yours, because the WJ's are from 1999-2004, inclusive). I'm sending you the Speed Control section of my manual. It saved my bacon and hopefully it will help you understand/find the issue with yours. Good luck.

 

Thanks. My time is limited when it comes to working on things. So it may be weeks before I get to use that diagram. The kid is driving it temporarily and we'll probably keep it when she gets another vehicle, so I will fix it eventually.
