Default Odd cruise control issue

So here's the deal, When start up the Jeep and hit the road I usually use the cruise control for highway driving. When I first turn the cruise on and set it the Jeep will accelerate 2-3 mph faster than the set speed for a minute or so and then slowly it will drop back down to the set speed. Once it has done this I can cancel and reset, turn it back off momentarily and back on and set it, or adjust faster or slower and it will hold the set speed. It only seems to be when I first turn the cruise on "cold" that it does this.

Anyone else have this problem? All the cruise control info I can find deals with systems not working at all so I'm hoping someone can relate. I believe this has done this since I got the Jeep, I'm just now getting around to trying to diagnose it.

Mine does it too. When I set it, It just speeds up a couple mph then goes back to the set speed

Mine does not always do this, but it does most of the time. I just accept it as normal. It does not seem to have any issues once it is set the first time so I have never looked into it any more

It's a 15 year old "not originally built to the highest quality standards" (NOBTTHQS for short) vehicle. One day soon you'll press the button and nothing will happen. Be thankful the cruise control works at all.

Good one! I like that.

Well if you guys are having the same issue then maybe it IS just normal. I've been watching it a little closer and have noticed it likes to overshoot in the hills now and then by about 2 mph or lag about 2 mph. Oh well. Probably wouldn't hurt to check the vacuum system for leaks anyway as s346k suggested. I was thinking about that this morning.
