Ya it's a hydraulic cooling fan, which it seems there is no relay for it, so what the hell is powering the damn thing that isn't work that needs to be replaced?

It's possible the hydraulic motor itself is shot. IMHO, I'd replace it with an electric one, hot wire it to run constantly, and be done with it. At least it's not pissing fluid yet.

I think I got it. I remember last week I disconnected the electric portion to the fan that is attacked to the shroud, and wouldn't ya know it, the check engine light is on. So that tells me the motor is getting power, but there is a small solenoid on the motor that comes off and it's bad so it's causing the fan to not work anymore..
Oh and yea there's a few problems with my jeep, biggest thing was I was always gone and never had time to devote to fixing her up. Now that I work in a shop, not only do I get some play time but also cheaper parts.

Well found out it's a hydraulic fan solenoid, problem is it's hard to find and not cheap either. But ford does make the same part too, for the lincoln.. I wonder how easy it would be to convert over to an eletric fan?

If you just want the electric fan, prowl the junk yards. If you want automatic control, it gets complicated with sensors and relays. You can just wire it to run constantly with ignition on with just a fuse and relay to carry the load.

I talked to my dad about doing that and although it sounds like a quick cheap fix he mentioned that if I ever decided to get rid of it that it needs to stay factory. So looks like I get to shell out 200.00 for this damn solenoid. Problem is finding a junk yard that might have it.

I agree with your Dad about WANTING to keep it all factory, however anyone that buys a used Jeep cannot really expect it to BE all factory. It's just not a normal expectation, unless it was owned by a soccer mom or someone who bought it as an ego thing. This is especially true with XJs, ZJs, and TJs.
The WJ, on the other hand, looks so much like other SUVs that you have to see the grill or badges to know it's even a Jeep.
