Default Control arm rebushing

What is the best way to remove old bushing from the brackets that are welded to the front axle? I drilled out the others that are in the control arms but not relly enough room to get a drill and holesaw in there to drill the others out. Really don't want to torch them out under the jeep. What would clean the old rubber out the best before I install new bushings?

A Dremmel tool works pretty good on getting the old rubber off of the outer shell. Are you installing poly bushings?

I used a ball joint press to push them out with and then used it again to push new ones in with, i put a light covering of grease around the outside just to help them slide in.

If you jack the vehicle up to allow the axle to drop you should have plenty of room for a ball joint press to fit.

Disconnect the shocks and the sway bar for a few inches more of axle drop.

First, we used a ball joint press on the front bushings, and it took us a day to press out the first bushing. When we did the rear bushings, we got a 12 ton shop press. We pulled the control arms off, and used the shop press to press out and press in the new bushings. With the shop press, we could knock out an arm in 20 minutes. Also, a way to help get them in is freeze the bushings overnight; did half the work for us.

If you're putting stock bushings in stock control arms, it would have been much easier to replace the whole arm with new ones from www.rockauto.com.
