Code 12 & 41
Every now and then my check engine light will come on, I do the self diagnostic proceedure and pull codes 12 (loss of battery power) and 41 (alt field not switching properly). I checked the charging system with my DVOM and have 14+ volts at the battery when the CEL is on. I've checked connections at the alternator and SBEC, everything I've read points to the SBEC. I'm hoping somebody has had the same problem and was able to fix it without plunking down almost 300 bucks for a reman SBEC. Anyone?

Update: On my to work this morning my volt gauge dropped to about 10 volts and the check engine light came on. I limped it to work, but I think the alternator crapped the bed.
Update #2: Replaced the alternator during my lunch hour and the problem has been solved. Who would have thunk the original alternator would go bad after only 175k miles?
