Hi all....I was away for 3 months, car dead when I got back. Charged the battery, connected and when I opened the door to start it, the alarm went off. Jeep wouldn't start.
I spoke to a mechanic who said the problem could be that the battery is not working properly and might not have enough power so I bought a new one...and still have the same problem.
I connected it up, the indicators flashed, I open the door and the alarm goes off. The remote still locks and unlocks the doors. Sometimes the alarm stops for a few seconds, then goes off again!
Any advice?
Just for ref, its a 99 V8 GC UK spec.

Unlock the passenger door with the key. There should be some info in the owners manual. Also, the ECM goes through a relearn when the battery is replaced after sitting dead for a length of time. You may have to keep your foot on the gas for a minute or two until it will idle on its own.
Thanks for the reply. I don't have a key lock on my passenger side. I have had a look in the manual and i cant find anything that mentions this type of issue.

yeah, for me unlocking passanger door with the key worked also. I heard u can unlock rear hatch with key also to disable the alarm. When mine was doing it it would start for a sec and just shut off. Same deal, battery was completely dead, put a new one in, thats when prob arised.

In my 93, you have to use the key on either the rear hatch or drivers door to disable the alarm. I don't have the fob for the remote unlock, so i have started to just unlock the hatch first because the door switch doesn't always work.
the security system resets every time the battery is disconnected...and will not allow the vehicle to run.

I only have one key lock on the jeep which is on the drivers door. I also noticed that the Sentry Key light stays on so I'm guessing I need to get it re-programmed!?

OK...so here's whats happened so far...
Got immobilizer code and had key re-programmed ... Sentry light still on and alarm sounds as soon as you open the door!
New battery and fully charged up system ... Same as above!
I have now disconnected the battery as there is no point having it connected at the moment.
I'm thinking its going to have to go to Jeep unless anyone has any ideas how I can get it started?
Just to summarize ... the remote locks/unlocks the doors fine, but every time I open the door, the alarm sounds and the sentry light on the dash remains lit so the car won't start.
Thanks

On mine I had to ground the purple /yellow wire coming from the security relays that are under the glove box. Remember this will disable the alarm and void any warranties .....lol
FIXED!
So it turned out that there was a corroded wire that was blowing a fuse!
I transported the Jeep to a specialist who told me that when they plugged their computer in, the engine management system didn't show up. They first unplugged it and tried a different one, but had the same problem so they took it in for a closer look. It was fixed the same day.
