Can i remove my front CV driveshaft on 2000 JGC quadra drive to test?
Fellas I was under the jeep again today trying to locate the clicking. Can I remove my front cv driveshaft to see if the noise goes away without causing harm? I don't want to buy the part and have it be the transfer case instead?

I took mine out of my when it was bad. It didn't hurt a thing. Mine isn't a quadra but they should be the same concept.

I wouldn't leave it out for long, because I believe this is the t-case with the viscous clutch. You can overheat the clutch without the front shaft working. I may be wrong on this one, so someone else will have to give you the answer.

Fellas is there a trick to getting the CV driveshaft out? I have all 6 bolts in the front and all 6 in the rear taken off the jeep.

Thanks Dave. I just want to drive it around the block a few times to see if the noise is my driveshaft. I don't want to buy one, if that's not my actual issue. It will be brief.

Fellas I took the front CV driveshaft out last night, and took her on a test drive around the block this AM. The funky noise was gone from the front of the Jeep.

sounds like your cv needs rebuilt.
now be sure to block your wheels tonight, or you may find your jeep on the neighbours lawn in the morning.

Fellas are any of you transfer case gurus? Here is my dilemma... I have the clicking noise with my 01 quadra drive..anyway, I removed the front CV driveshaft the other day and the noise went away on a test drive. Well today I was going to just replace the driveshaft with a rebuilt unit, then one of my mechanic buddies stated that the noise could still be the transfer case, but I don't hear it because the front shaft is gone. It didn't make since to me, but is this possible?

Yes, it makes sense. The newer Jeeps don't have locking hubs so both drive shaft spin but the front doesn't have any power to it because it's in 2WD.
With the D-shaft removed there is no load on the front output. With the shaft installed there is. The front output has to spin the d-shaft & axle shafts.
I would spin the front output yoke back & forth & see if you sense anything weird.
Gritty or binding feeling will tell you issues exist.

Dave would this theory apply to the AWD also since it's in AWD at all times? Thanks for the quick reply.
