a/c only works sometimes

a/c only works sometimes
The a/c on my 2004 grand cherokee overland just started having problems. When I start the car I never know if it will be working or not. SOmetimes it works perfectly- cold air - but other times when I start the car it does not work at all - blows warm air and will not get any cooler. I then have to turn the car off and restart it and hope the a/c kicks back in. About 50% of the time it does, 50% not. Any ideas??

check the pressure switch, should have two or three wires. Search for it with your year and engine size. you can test by jumpering it with a paper clip or wire
