A/C is driving me crazy!!!!! Blend doors!! ahh
Ok, at times my 99 limited just stops allowing air to flow everywhere. Not hot or cold just no air at all. Sounds like its trapped behind a door. Was getting a bunch of blend door error codes and changed out the doors behind the glovebox. Worked for a week and now again..... air sounds trapped behind a door and no air at all in 100degree heat. Eventually it will come back on.
I made the very bad mistake of turning the a/c all the way off tonight. The recirc light has never worked either. Don't care as long as I have regular ac though.
Can someone help me before I drive it off a cliff. Here are the error codes now:
14-17 19 21 23 42 . I will do whatever I need to to fix this thing , just need to know what.

UPDATE
Ok, had no choice but to bring to my mechanic. The guy thinks its the AC controller which is a $500 part and on backorder. It includes the ***** and temperature displays. Gonna charge me a nice $80 to add freon/check ac system too. I guess its possible for the doors not to open because of this but I still think it may be an upper blend door fix. Anyone??????

thanks
I ordered some $5 kit on the internet that will keep the recirculation door open or closed all the time. I'm hoping this will fix it and I won't have to take the dash apart. The problem I have IS with the recirculation blend door I assume.

Hey Thunder.
This is my first post on this forum. Just picked up a 1997 XJ and the blend doors weren’t working. Because of the AC problems, I got it pretty cheap.
I considered digging into the dash myself, but I just didn’t have it in me.
$1400 and 3 weeks later (didn’t have the cash all at once), it is now fixed.
He had to replace ½ of that unit that contain the blend doors. I also had him replace the heater core while in there. Also the canister and auxiliary fan (wasn’t coming on).
Had I know it was the blend doors, I would have tried to install this kit myself: http://www.heatertreater.net/jeep%20Cherokee%2097-04.html
But originally, the problem was diagnosed by a shop and the mechanic that did the work as an actuator arm breakage. My symptoms were that the air was coming out the side defrost, and rear seat, but not the front vents.
Now the AC works great, but it does stop blowing under hard load (like when climbing a hill), which I’ve read on this forum is either a vacuum leak, or an issue with the compressor clutch. I suspect the compressor clutch since the mechanic went over the vacuum system while digging into the dash and recharging the AC.
Bummer, because that money was supposed to get me into a lift kit and new wheels/tires.
Please let us know if that kit you bought works. Do you have a link to the company that sells it?

if you have to replace some parts dont buy them from the dealer or anything. go to your local JY or a pull-a-part is most recommended. got 3 of each of the parts needed to fix the A/C on my 95. should work for now on and it only cost me 30 bucks to get all the parts i needed. OH and the dealer want around 200 dollars for the one part they said i needed which turned out to work fine...just figured i would throw that in there

Thanks for the advise guys. Picked it up and they didn't charge me anything so far. Owner wan't to research a little and agreed it probably wasn't the controller.
Here is the kit I ordered MTbrian: http://blendorstore.com/n

Yeah, if I had known about that solution, I'd have my blend doors basically wired open and a kick-butt lift and wheels by now.
Thx for the link...
