Buying a WK, when it comes to lifting and sizin up tires does i6 or 8 matter?
Hey guys,
I'm buying a WJ GC, I plan on lifting it and running 33's at least. Can anyone please tell me if there is any difference, large or small, in whether I go for a 6 cyl or v8 engine when it comes to lift/upsizing wheels? I'm looking at two different WJ's right now and I'm currently leaning towards the one with a 6 cyl because it has an int/ext color combo that I prefer, but if there is a performance issue in choosing that over the v8 I would much rather get the v8 and deal with the coloring later.
Thanks!

First thing is the IFS, second is the TPMS that is standard on WKs, third is they dropped the i6 for a v6 for the WK model year. IFS systems are made for comfort, not for lifting, you can lift them but it is way harder on the equipment. The TPMS will be thrown off in accuracy and can be damaged by different tires and wheels. The new v6 was designed for better fuel efficiency compared to the 'outdated' AMC i6.

On the power side of the arguement you are going to want the V8, the V6 is not necessarily a big turd but when you put larger tires on, it is going to take more power to turn them. The V8 has more power but it will still loose a percentage like the V6 but the loss won't feel as bad.

Thanks for the info guys, gotta update though I messed up!
I'm looking at two different jeep's right now, and they're both WJ, not WK. They're both 04 JGC Laredo's, one has a 6 under the hood the other is an 8. Does this change the argument at all?
Honestly the only reason I was considering the 6 over the 8 was because the 6 I'm looking at has a exterior and interior color that I prefer over the one I'm looking at with an 8.
I guess I'll just have to test them both out and see how big the difference is.

I have a 4.7L in my WJ and WK with 107k and 172k respectively on them and they still running perfect, no oil leaks. With the i6, u may notice that it has less power and less fuel efficiency.
Also, the WJ has a solid front axle which is preferred for lifting a vehicle, and TPMS is not standard on them.

But what I'm getting from this is that other than power they both have the solid front axle so I don't have much to worry about in lifting a 4.0 6? and do you mean that the v8 gets better gas mileage than the 6, how so?

The WJ weighs more than the ZJ and the i6 in the ZJ didn't get very good mileage, a little less than the 5.2l v8. My signature has what my readout is telling me for mpg for all 3 of my Jeeps. I try to use non-ethanol fuel in them so they can stay up like they are too.
