Default Bulb Replacement In Single Zone Heater Control

Months ago I saw a video or read how to remove the single zone heat control unit on my 2000 WJ. I had intermittent lighting. I ordered the bulbs and now I forgot how to get it out. I have the top 2 screws out, (removed radio bezel) but forgot how to get the bottom two out. Or how to get the bottom out if there aren't any screws. Thanks.

Pry the cigarette lighter panel off it's clips and there are 2 more screws on the bottom. I just replaced all 4 of my bulbs. WARNING! The bulbs are glued into their sockets and need to be replaced as a unit. I was going to put LEDs in , but the sockets don't accept them.

I learned how to replace them on wjjeeps.com

Thanks. I found the video on the interweb. Tell me about the bulbs. The stealership had given me the wrong bulbs. I called them back and we were able to find the right bulbs, but just the bulbs. I am supposed to go there today and exchange the bulbs they gave me,for the bulbs they have in stock. The ones they gave me had a black plastic holder, but its to small for the opening. They have just the bulbs available (PC74), but they don't come with the gray plastic holder that twists into the control. I figured the bulbs just plug in and out from the plastic holder. Are you saying they are glued into the plastic holder? How does one remove the bulbs from the holder? ? In have the site wjjeeps.com bookmarked, but I don't see anything about how to replace these bulbs. I see reference to the duel zone heater control, but not the single and nothing specific about these bulbs. .

Update: Actually I may have found them here:

Okay, my dealer gave me the right bulbs when I told him what I'd found in my jeep. They ARE PC74s, but were glued into the sockets. I already had PC74 LEDs to replace them with, but I crushed the original bulbs trying to remove them. There were no contacts inside the sockets, just bits of wire from the old bulbs. My jeep's production date is July of 2000. That info is on a tag on the driver's door.

The PC74's in my instrument cluster just clipped into sockets. I expected the same from the heater. The trick was the bulbs in the overhead console. They are tiny and had to be ordered at $7 each!

I have learned to always talk to the parts manager, not the counter guy. Those guys haven't a clue if the jeep is more than 5 years old!

Apparently I misunderstood the dealer parts guy over the phone yesterday. I got there this morning and they had the bulbs, in the plastic base. Not just the bulb as I thought. The bulbs he had , had black bases. My stock bulbs had grey bases. According to him, the bulbs with the grey bases are glued into the base as you said. The ones with the black base are two pieces and the bulb can be pulled from the base and replaced independently. I haven't tried that, but he said he did. My original bulbs lasted 15 years, I doubt if I'll live long enough to have to replace them again, or remember any of this if I do!

The bulbs I got for replacements also had black bases, although I didn't try removing the bulbs. Maybe I CAN use my LEDs after all! But like you said, I'm not taking them out until they burn out.
