It does sound like the timing is off, that grey thing takes the place of a standard distributor.

thanks for the quick reply.... i will mess with it more.... i was also reading about having to take it to the dealer for a DBRIII or DRBIII scan tool adjustment???? i have never heard anything about this....

hope this is an easy fix as i want to start driving this jeep and get my old one sold before the snow flies...

I'm not sure how to make sure the cam sensor timing is correct, it's not like you just pull the distributor cap off and check the rotor position at TDC.

I wondered about that, Busted. My 00 WJ has one of those little grey thingies on it. It frightens me just looking at it!

Update; Haynes repair manual shows how to align the cam sensor to the crank.

Thats a great looking WJ you have there. Very clean. You stated that the machine shop installed a comp cam. Do you know which one specifically? I would like to add a little more pickup to my 4.0. Thanks.

Not sure on the cam #. He said it was a little beefier than stock but no computer flash required.

Thanks, she is pretty clean. Now I have to sell my 98 cherokee sport that is just as clean and a great runner. That is the green one in my little icon near my name.
