guy had it posted as a 2000 GC and come to find out it is a 2001 GC. I have sourced a 2000 GC 4.0 motor for it as the one that is in it is toast.... #5 piston created lots of shrapnel.
my ?? is this.... what, if any differences from the 2000 GC 4.0 engine to a 2001 GC engine.... should it work fine??
thanks guys....

See that orange can on the side of the block that says "FRAM"? Change it to one that says "MOPAR" or "WIX" on it when you install the new engine.

Well it's out and headed to the machine shop. Junk yard motor with 90k on it is priced locally at $1075+tx. Machine shop master rebuild total bill is around $800 with a stepped up comp cam
Easy decision.
Top 2 bell housing bolts were a PIA. Until I removed the motor mount bolts and dropped the front down a bit. Then they came out no prob. Tranny pissed out enough fluid to make my garage floor look like OJ stopped by.
Exhaust mans looked very good and will be reused. I plan on new water pump, stat, idler, tensioner, and belt.
More pics and posts to follow.
Have a good one guys.

Hadnt seen this thread earlier..
Looks all too familiar.. bought the Mrs a WJ needing an engine, broken piston skirt like yours. Found a low mileage (15K) rebuild out of a wreck, been purring for a lil over a year.
Now to go knock on wood...

Well, got the motor in, and now it cranks but won't start. It did backfire through the intake a couple of times.
so... ? does the gray unit where the distributor would be call the timing?? could it be 180 out? It did spit and sputter a few times and the garage smelled like exhaust, but no fire... any help would be much appreciated.
thanks guys
