Default Blend door issue!

Hi everyone. looking for some knowledge, Blend door issue. no heat on passenger side. Bought the blend door repair kit. but the doors ended up being fine. The passenger side one wont move when I change passenger temp. Yet when I turn off the truck I swear I can hear it moving. Is there a way to get to the passenger side blend door actuator. Has anyone else had this issue? I wanted to try asking first but I'm going to search the forum as well. Thanks for listening.

Welcome to CF!

It sounds like it because it's got dual zone control and he changes the passenger's temp. Unfortunately, the pass blend door actuator is on the BACK side of the air box and you need to remove the dash to get to it. What you hear when you shut off the engine is the vacuum reservoir closing the mode control doors to outside air. An answer to this is to replace the double doors with a single door and just use the driver's temp control to modulate the heat for the entire cabin. You may need to drill out the rear actuator to clear the round shaft of the single door. The actuators are electrical stepper-motors so you can't turn them by hand and the shafts are plastic. Usually when they quit working, the motor has sheared the shaft.

Depending on the year of your jeep, you can download a Full Service Manual for $7.99+tax from pacificcoastmanuals.com. It's THE BEST manual there is available for jeeps. It's 93mbs of compressed pdf files. It explains the automatic unit in detail.

Welcome to the forum!

My 04 WJ has duel climate control as well and has made that sound Dave as long as I have owned it (6 yrs) and it still works fine just sounds like a groan under the dash on pass side.

I worried about it it for several years then just used to it will wait till it goes out then throw money at it.

Fred, what I'm saying is that noise is normal. When you shut off the engine, the HVAC unit uses the vacuum in the reservoir to close the air inlet door to keep out rain, wind, and debris when it's just sitting. That's the basic REASON for the reservoir! It has other functions, but that's the big one.

I'm sorry I never replied back! Thank you everyone for your help. I was able to prop up the far side so it will get constant heat for winter but I will definitely try using one door for both sides the next time I have a chance to work on it. For now my dads happy he has heat and since its his shop and wine I try to always keep him happy!
